Here at Heal n Cure, we focus on weight loss and overall health and wellness. One of the ways we “kick start” our patients’ weight loss journey to wellness is through the use of liver detoxification.

Over the course of a lifetime, we will be exposed to and absorb thousands of foreign compounds through our food, air, and some directly through our skin. For some people, the effects will be more drastic than others because they have substituted healthy food with a diet that lacks the nutritional value that our bodies rely on to keep our incredible machine running efficiently due to a build-up of toxins putting our body into a state of toxicity.

Toxins can come from a variety of different sources such as chemical pollutants, heavy metals, pesticides, drugs, alcohol, and food additives. While these are all outside sources of toxins, toxins can also come from normal metabolism and intestinal build-up of unhealthy bacteria in your body. You can reduce your risk for toxicity by avoiding foods high in fat, additives, and preservatives and eating organically grown fruits, vegetables, and grains; and drink plenty of water.
Your body can remove toxins through detoxification, or as many of you may know it “detox”. Detox involves three stages to eliminate stored toxins, it is important to note that only water-soluble substances can be effectively excreted from the body which is why all three phases are reliant on the others.
  1. Liver function phase – Fat-soluble toxins are transformed into intermediate compounds that can be more reactive but bind more easily to non-toxic water-soluble molecules in liver function phase 2.
  2. Liver function phase 2 –  Formation between the reactive intermediates and water-soluble molecules makes the entire compound harmless and ready for excretion out of the body. Without enough supportive phase 2 substances, the reactive intermediates can attack healthy tissues and may lead to damage.
  3. Excretion –  Neutralized toxins, now made water-soluble, are removed from the body in urine via the kidneys or in bile/feces through the intestines.

Prolonged fasting may do more harm than good because the detoxification process requires a lot of energy. So, fasting with water or “juice” has been shown to be ineffective and potentially dangerous. Prolonged fasting may weaken muscles and other organs, thereby eliminating the essential nutrients required for healthy detoxification of toxins. Studies have shown that the overall detoxification process is heavily nutrient-dependent. Without optimal detoxification, your body is unable to remove harmful toxins. Therefore, a focused, high impact, low-allergen-potential nutritional support program, like Heal n Cure’s Rainbow Detox plan, promotes a healthy detox.
