20 years ago, surgery was one of the only effective interventions for facial sagging and skin laxity. But now, advancements in technology allow us to address many of these concerns (and so much more!) without the need for significant downtime or the risks involved with surgery.
At Heal n Cure, we offer Emface, along with other radiofrequency skin tightening technologies, to achieve excellent results that help our patients feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and proud of their natural beauty.
If you’re looking for a nonsurgical facelift in Glenview, read on to learn more about what to expect from Emface and whether or not you would be a candidate.
What is Emface?
Before we dive into the difference between surgical and nonsurgical facelifts, let’s recap how Emface works.
Emface is a full-face rejuvenation technology that addresses:
- Mild-to-moderate facial lines & wrinkles
- Volume loss in the cheeks
- Loose skin on the forehead, around the eyes, along the jawline, or underneath the chin
- Loss of contour on the cheeks or jawline
- Excess fat underneath the chin (double chin)
Surgical v. Nonsurgical Facelift
In Glenview, many of our patients are looking to refresh their overall look without the need for significant downtime or the risks involved with surgery.
Below, we’ve broken down the benefits of Emface in comparison with a surgical facelift.
Emface (Nonsurgical Facelift) | Surgical Facelift | |
---|---|---|
Ideal for… | Early signs of sagging, mild laxity | Moderate-to-severe sagging, deep folds, significant skin laxity |
Invasive? | No needles, no cuts, no anesthesia | Requires surgery and anesthesia |
Downtime? | None | Significant (2+ weeks with swelling and bruising) |
Results? | Gradual, subtle lifting and firming | Dramatic lift and contouring |
Duration of Results? | Months; maintenance required | Years; permanent, but aging continues |
Discomfort? | Mild warmth and muscle contractions | Moderate pain, soreness, and bruising |
Scarring? | None | Hidden incision scars |
Cost? | Lower per session | Higher upfront cost |
Risks? | Rare and temporary redness or irritation | Infection, scarring, anesthesia risks, prolonged swelling |
Candidacy for a Nonsurgical Facelift
Please note those who are not candidates for Emface are those who:
- Have unrealistic expectations. Emface is highly effective, but it does not result in the same effects as a surgical facelift. This treatment works best for subtle lifting and rejuvenation, and results are gradual and natural-looking. If you are expecting significant transformation after only a single session or believe it eliminates the need for future surgical intervention entirely, we will want to realign your expectations before beginning treatment.
- Have any medical contraindications. Patients with an active electrical implant, like a pacemaker or defibrillator, are not a candidate for Emface. Additionally, if you have an active skin infection, acne, cancer, a sunburn, or a tattoo in the treatment area, you are not a candidate.
- Are currently taking or have recently stopped taking Accutane. Accutane thins the skin and reduces the production of oil, making it more fragile and prone to irritation. Emface uses radiofrequency (RF) and electromagnetic muscle stimulation, which can cause mild heat, muscle contraction, and skin stress.
- Are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
Emface After Weight Loss
“If I have lost a significant amount of weight, can Emface help me? At what point would a surgical facelift be necessary?”
Emface can absolutely help tighten and tone the skin after weight loss, but you’ll see the best results if you begin treatments along the way. Supporting your skin and facial structure during your weight-loss journey can minimize sagging and help you maintain natural lift and contour. If there’s already a significant amount of excess skin, however, a surgical facelift may be the better option.
For the best results, it’s ideal to start treating your face while you’re actively losing weight. This early intervention helps to maintain tone and firmness as your facial contours change. If you wait until a significant amount of weight has been lost, you may notice looser or excess skin, which sometimes requires a surgical approach to remove it.
After surgery, treatments like Exion, Morpheus8, or Emface can further enhance skin quality and lift, helping you achieve smoother, more natural results.
Other Nonsurgical Facelift Options
The modalities we mentioned above also help tighten and lift the skin on the face:
Exion
It combines radiofrequency (RF) energy with artificial intelligence–controlled ultrasound to stimulate collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production in the skin.
Exion is the next generation of skin rejuvenation. It not only tightens and firms, but also enhances the skin’s internal ability to restore itself, thanks to its unique stimulation of hyaluronic acid (which most devices don’t achieve). There are two components to the Exion device:
- Exion Face & Body (RF + AI ultrasound). A noninvasive treatment for skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, and overall rejuvenation that promotes natural skin regeneration by boosting collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. We can use this on both the face and body!
- Exion Fractional (microneedling + RF): This treatment combines microneedling with RF for deeper skin remodeling. It works by stimulating fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin. The microneedling + RF technology specifically helps improve fine lines, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and overall skin texture.
Morpheus8
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with fractional radiofrequency (RF) energy to remodel and contour the skin at a deeper level than traditional microneedling treatments. It stimulates collagen and elastin production while tightening underlying tissues, leading to smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.
Morpheus8 is often called a “subdermal remodeling” treatment because it doesn’t just work at the surface—it penetrates into the dermis and underlying fat layers to sculpt and rejuvenate from within. It’s safe for all skin types and can be customized to treat both delicate areas (like under the eyes) and larger body zones.
There are two primary applications of Morpheus8:
- Morpheus8 Face: A minimally invasive treatment for fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and uneven skin tone or texture. It stimulates collagen and elastin while tightening and smoothing the skin for natural-looking rejuvenation.
- Morpheus8 Body: Uses deeper fractional RF technology to target larger or tougher areas of laxity. This treatment helps tighten loose skin, improve stretch marks, reduce scars, and contour stubborn fat deposits for an overall firmer, more toned appearance.
